Update 9/25/2023- 10:30 am EDT --The NWS COOP Weather Station in East Tawas reports that monthly precipitation has been 31% (-.75") below average and the temperature has been slightly above the long-term average; annual precipitation has been 2% (+0.52") above the long-term average and the annual temperature has been 2% (+1.2°F) above average. Monthly precipitation for the Lake Huron-Michigan Basin through September 24 has been 1.13" or 59% (-1.64" ) below average. As of September 24, the average Lake Huron surface water temperature is 65.0°F compared to 64.4°F last year and an average of 62.7°F. As of 7:10 am EDT, the NDBC weather buoy located 43 NM east of Oscoda, MI reports that the air temperature is 64.8°F, the surface water temperature is 64.9°F, the wind is NE at 11 mph and the wave height is 1.0 ft. As of 7:10 am EDT, the weather buoy located 22 miles Northeast of Alpena, MI reports an air temperature of 63.3°F, a surface water temperature of 64.2°F, the wind is ENE at 13 mph and the wave height is 1.3 ft. As of 7:20 am EDT, the GLERL weather buoy located 4 miles east of Pt. AuGres reports an air temperature of 66.0°F and the wind is NE at 9 mph.
* Lake Huron water levels- As of 9/22/23: 2" below the 8/22/23 level; 2" below the 9/22/22 level; 4" above the average for September; 30" below the 1986 average high for September and 34" above the 1964 average low for September. The level is projected to be the 3" lower by 10/22/23.  The water level is currently 32.8 inches below it's July 2020 all time high water point.
