Update 1/31/2023- 7:30 am -- The NWS COOP Weather Station in East Tawas reports that monthly precipitation through January 31 has been 8% (-.16") below average and the monthly temperature has been 41% (+9.0°F) above average; annual precipitation has been 8% (-.16") below the long-term average and the annual temperature has been 41% (+9.0°F) above average. As of January 31, snowfall for the year (beginning July 1) has been about 14.0" compared to the average to date of of 26.7". The current snow depth is about 6". Monthly precipitation for the Lake Huron-Michigan Basin through January 29 has been 12% (-.25") below the long-term average.  As of January 30, the average Lake Huron surface water temperature is 36.6°F compared to 34.5°F last year and an average of 34.4°F, and the ice cover on Lake Huron is at 16.38%, compared to 50.51% last year.

* Lake Huron water levels- As of 1/27/23: same as the 12/27/22 level; 5" below the 1/27/22 level; 5" above the average for Jan.; 32" below the 2020 average high for Jan. and 34" above the 2013 average low for Jan. Level is projected to be the same by 2/27/23.  The water level is currently 39.8 inches below it's July 2020 all time high water point.
